Former En Vogue singer Dawn Robinson has opened up about her personal struggles, revealing that she has been living in her car for nearly three years.
A Difficult Transition
In a candid video on her YouTube channel, Robinson shared that while some advised her not to disclose her situation due to her celebrity status, she chose to speak out anyway.
“What if they judge me? So what? We’re all judged. Life is life.”
She explained that her housing struggles began in 2020, when she was living with her parents in Las Vegas. After that arrangement fell apart, she found herself staying in her car for a month before a co-manager in Los Angeles offered her a place to stay. However, upon arrival, she discovered that he actually had no room for her. This led to an eight-month stay in a hotel, followed by difficulty securing an apartment.
Embracing “Car Life”
Rather than feeling defeated, Robinson said she started researching the “car life” community—a group of people who choose to live in their vehicles.
“I felt free. I felt like I was on a camping trip,” she said, describing her adjustment to the lifestyle in 2022.
Robinson emphasized that she wasn’t sharing her experience to gain sympathy but rather to inspire others.
“It’s not ‘woe is me.’ I’m learning about who I am, as a person, as a woman.”
Despite the unexpected turn in her journey, she described her current life as an “adventure” and plans to continue documenting it.
